ONBOARDING AND HELP

Help in context

Problem

Users may be confused at critical points in the app if they don’t have enough knowledge, or if they encounter previously unknown pattern of interaction or concept for the first time.

Solution

Help in context is help that is provided to the user at a specific point in the application. Help is available from the screen level and / or is displayed while performing the task. The pattern can be used in a mobile or web application. It is similar to onboarding, differing only in the point where help is displayed – onboarding gives users knowledge immediately upon arrival in the application, and help in context helps them during the use of the application.
